It is preparing for a grand re-opening at 10am tomorrow where a newly-designed $6 million cube will be unveiled. The number of panes in the cube will drop from 90 to just 15 (3 per side)....
If you have an iPhone 8 or newer, you’ve probably already updated to iOS 16. The latest operating system introduces cool new features, such as the ability to customize your lock screen and update the apps you use most, including Mail, Health, Wallet and Maps. The big news is that you can finally edit and unsend text messages. We’ve been waiting for these features for a long time. It sounds like a great idea, but it’s not as clear-cut as it seems....
Yet more dogs of war heard howling in the mists as we learn Apple has been quietly poaching senior enterprise sales staff from competitor, Research In Motion. The Wall Street Journal (via MR) tells us Apple has hired at least five members of the RIM enterprise team — and stresses there could be even more Apple switchers making the move to iPhone. In the past 18 months, at least five members of RIM’s enterprise-sales team have left the company to join Apple....
Apple confirmed the WWDC 2020 schedule last week, beginning on June 22nd with a special opening keynote that will be live streamed to everyone. The company has now shared on its official YouTube channel the link to the live video of this event, so that users can set a reminder for next Monday before the presentation begins. The keynote will begin on Monday, June 22 at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET....
In a statement to CNBC, Apple says it is on pace to beat last year’s iPhone record with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus for opening weekend sales. This means Apple should exceed the 10 million unit record it set last year with the iPhone 6. Apple says that online demand for the larger iPhone 6s Plus is ‘exceptionally strong’ with the initial stock of units sold out globally....
Developers get downloading! Apple has just begun seeding iTunes 10.5 beta 8 (Mac only) and iWork for iOS beta 3 to developers, on the Developer Center. According to the release notes after the break, iTunes 10.5 beta 8 brings several bug fixes and performance updates for subscribers using iTunes Match beta. The new iTunes beta also brings the ability to back up to iCloud from inside of iTunes. We assume iWork for iOS beta 3 brings bug fixes, too....
Apple is looking to expand its Apple Wallet team with someone experienced in cryptocurrency and other alternative payment solutions, according to a new job opening posted this week. The position was first spotted by CoinDesk, and it is specifically for a “Business Development Manager – Alternative Payments.” The person chosen for the role would join the Apple Wallets, Payments, and Commerce team, which Apple internally refers to as the WPC team....
Update: It appears that 4K content is rolling out to all users – not just beta users. As Apple is just starting the rollout process, there’s like some wonkiness going on here that was causing 4K not to initially show on iOS 10 devices. Apple this evening has started rolling out 4K movies to the iTunes Store. While the Apple TV 4K is only going up for preorder tonight and won’t actually be released until next week, Apple is seemingly prepping the iTunes Store for the debut…....
Apple today has informed members of its Developer Program that they must enable two-factor authentication on their account by the end of this month. Apple made the announcement in an email to Developer Program members. Apple has seemingly required new Apple Developer Program signups to have two-factor authentication enabled for a while now. This change, however, is targeting existing developers who have yet to enable the security measure on their account....
Apple has implemented purchasing limits on many of its products this week. As noted by CNBC, Apple has placed restrictions on how many iPhones and iPads can be ordered by a single customer due to ongoing supply constraints as a result of COVID-19. The report explains that Apple’s online store now limits customers in the United States to buying “two units of each iPhone model per person.” Of course, customers can buy more than two iPhones in the same order, as long as they are different variants....
Investor anxiety is high at present, with deepening gloom in the US economy and depressing forward analyses of consumer electronic spending. And with Apple set to reveal its Q2 FY 2008 financial results tomorrow, lack of an admitted iPhone sales boost seems to have been sufficient to drive the sell-off, regarded by some on financial bulletin boards as representing particularly heavy trading. Despite the malaise, AT&T did admit some iPhone goodness: “iPhone continues to be very popular with customers, feedback is very good,” the company said....

While those stores may be large, beautifully architected, and significant, Apple is preparing a new store that will be even more extraordinary for the decade-old retail chain… Beyond its string of over 300 Apple Stores across the globe, Apple has been eyeing a new strategy to bring its products into even more places....
Apple is updating its affiliate program today for the rebranded Apple Books. And with that, Apple is making some changes for authors and publishers that will make it easier to distribute on the platform. Firstly, and the more obvious change is Apple is updating all of its badges, switching from “Get it on iBooks” to “Get it on Apple Books”. This applies to all labels such as downloading or pre-ordering books, in all languages....
Apple today announced that it has revamped its Affiliate Program with a handful of changes. The Affiliate Program now features a redesigned interface with a new navigation system, more powerful reporting, and more. Apple touts that with navigation design has been “updated and simplified.” There’s also a new dashboard with performance metrics and other data visualizers. As for payments, Apple says that the new design makes it easier to see what you’ve earned....
After several years of quiet development, Apple is readying a major new iOS initiative codenamed “Proactive,” which will leverage Siri, Contacts, Calendar, Passbook, and third-party apps to create a viable competitor to Google Now for Android devices. Like Google Now, Proactive will automatically provide timely information based on the user’s data and device usage patterns, but will respect the user’s privacy preferences, according to sources familiar with Apple’s plans. As an evolution of iOS’s Spotlight search feature, Proactive is the fruit of a long-term initiative that involved the acquisition of small app developers, and integration of core iOS apps....
We obviously had to white out numbers above – From Apple’s Retail inventory system. A source inside Apple Retail has shared with us the numbers for Apple’s Black Friday sales event. Black Friday is always huge shopping day and Apple forecasted at least 4X sales for the day. However, because Apple did have the lowest prices on big ticket items like the iPad, it blew away forecasts by 7PM and unsurprisingly had its biggest sales day of all time....
The stakes are high: Apple holds 70 per cent of the US MP3 player market with its iPod range. We believe Cupertino plans to upgrade its digital music players within weeks. One band that may not appear at the new iPod launch this time around may be U2. While Apple may spend less than half that of Microsoft and a quarter that of Google on Washington D.C. lobbying, the company under Tim Cook is investing an increasing amount of its cash in its influence around the United States capital. As Bloomberg reports, data from OpenSecrets.org puts Apple’s spending on Washington lobbyists from January through September last year at $2.9 million (a number which doesn’t include the last quarter of 2014) and almost $3....
Last year, Apple was hit with dozens of lawsuits over its performance management features in iOS. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Committee last week, Apple said that it is setting aside the money necessary to resolve these cases. In December of 2017 and January of 2018, Apple faced dozens of lawsuits after it confirmed that it throttled older iPhones suffering from battery wear. In general, the lawsuits made allegations of planned obsolescence and said Apple should have given users the option to choose between performance and potential reliability issues – which it eventually did....
Apple has issued a statement advising that it has completely sold out of the Jet Black iPhone 7 and all versions of the iPhone 7 Plus, thanks to pre-orders. It adds that ‘limited quantities’ of other finishes of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will be available to walk-in customers tomorrow. In Australia, staff have been breaking the news to those waiting in line at Apple Stores, informing them that not even those at the head of the line would be able to buy a 7 Plus....
