The iPad mini with Retina display went on sale through the Apple Online Store early Tuesday morning in an uncharacteristically soft launch. The news was prefaced by an internal memo that leaked from Apple’s GSX tool. The device is available in the United States, Australia, China (no LTE models yet), Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and Singapore. The release comes at an unexpected time. Apple didn’t officially announce the release date ahead of time, saying only that the device would be available sometime this month....

According to the Associated Press, Apple’s request to suspend Judge Cote’s decision regarding the e-books antitrust case has been denied. The future doesn’t look so bright for the iBookstores’ agency model, as it looks like the agreements with publishers will be ending very soon if things don’t turn around for Apple. A judge on Friday refused a request by Apple to temporarily suspend her ruling that it violated antitrust laws by conspiring with publishers to raise electronic book prices in 2010....

Apple today has officially scheduled its fiscal Q2 2020 earnings call for Thursday, April 30. This will be an incredibly important earnings release for the company as it comes amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. Apple announced in February that it would not hit its Q2 earnings range due to coronavirus and the associated supply constraints and economic uncertainty. Apple had forecast a wider-than-usual range revenue range for Q2, predicting revenue between $63 billion and $67 billion....

Not content with resting on its laurels, Apple is looking to ratchet it up a notch with a new patent filing titled “Interfacing Portable Media Devices And Sports Equipment” that surfaced Thursday in the United States Trademark and Patent Office database....

Apple’s video editing app, Clips, has been updated today with a range of new features including a retro camcorder filter, new posters, stickers, Live Titles, ClassKit support, and more. It’s been since last November that Clips saw an update, but today’s release brings a solid batch of new features and changes. Apple continues to showcase the iPhone 11 Pro camera through its Shot on iPhone series of videos. In a new video today, Apple showcases the Ultra Wide camera capabilities of the device. Apple continues to slowly but surely build its plans for original TV content. Its latest deal is an English adaptation of the French TV series, Calls … Variety shared the news. In the original French version, there are ten episodes, each around ten minutes in length. Created by Timothée Hochet, the original “Calls” allows audiences to experience short stories through real-life audio sources and minimal visuals. As part of the deal, Apple has also acquired the rights to the first season of the French original ....

Apple’s design chief Jony Ive told the Telegraph that while his own team has worked using paper sketchbooks for more than 20 years, they are for the first time starting to use the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil instead. He said that while he’d started off demonstrating it, he’d then found himself using it for his work … Many of us in the design team have worked together for 20 plus years....

The ‘Best of’ video shows off some of 2016’s highlights in entertainment all of which can be found in Apple’s various online stores. Showing a plethora of content from Apple Music, the App Store, iTunes, iBooks, and even Beats 1, the video shows off just how much is available for Apple customers to enjoy....

A brief report in China’s Economic Daily Times says that Apple’s AirPods manufacturer, Inventec, is expanding capacity in order to meet strong demand. The report noted that Inventec has recently started expanding capacity at its Shanghai plants in order to satisfy increasing demand for the earphones and the plants are currently working overtime to deliver orders … Unsurprisingly, Inventec declined to comment on the report. Tim Cook recently described AirPods as ‘a runaway success‘ and said that the company was making them ‘as fast as we can’ to keep up with demand – but did not provide any sales numbers....

More than four years after introducing new design thinking to its retail stores, Apple is bringing the latest aesthetic to Canada for the first time. On December 14 at 9:00 a.m., Toronto’s Apple Eaton Centre will open in a new and expanded space in the mall, replacing the original store that has served customers since May 2006. Today we’re seeing Apple’s latest tablets pop-up for pre-order and there are already a few ways to save. Best Buy is currently throwing in up to $50 gift cards when you pre-order any of yesterday’s new iPad models. B&H has also launched pre-orders, and although full-price, the online retailer only charges taxes for New York and New Jersey resident’s at the time of shipping....

Coinciding with the release of the HomePod earlier this year, Apple debuted a trippy 4-minute advertisement for the smart speaker directed by Spike Jonze and starring FKA Twigs. Now, that ad has taken home an award at the Association of Independent Commercial Producers Show… As reported by AdAge, the HomePod advertisement won in the “Advertising Excellence/Single Commercial” category: The AICP awards are held every year and highlight the best of that year’s advertisements....

Last year, 2012, was Tim Cook’s first full year at the helm, and the first full year without Steve Jobs. It was a year filled with new products and advancements, but it was also a year of controversy, mounting competition from companies like Google and Samsung, and a year of a rising—and later falling—stock share price. To address the last year and the year ahead, Apple CEO Tim Cook summoned corporate employees to his Cupertino Campus’s De Anza 3 auditorium....

Apple has created a new web page announcing that it has “directly and indirectly” created more than 325,000 jobs in South Korea, home to supplier and rival Samsung. It says that around 200,000 of these are associated with the App Store, suggesting that the majority of these jobs are in independent software development businesses… The Korea Herald says that examples of job-generating partnerships cited by Apple range from stainless steel production to mobile app development....

Apple has released its holiday gift guide for 2016, including a variety of accessories for its core products: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV. The list of recommendations is more focused than the vast 2015 guide, presenting four collections: music, photography, games, and a general Apple products category. The primary category only features Apple’s first-party products, like Apple Watch bands, iPhone cases, Beats headphones and Apple Pencil for iPad Pro....

The company has not been hesitant to share its views on LGBT rights, and the parade was yet another instance of that. This evening, Apple uploaded a video to its official YouTube channel showing off all of the effort that went into the Pride Parade last week and its “unwavering” support for equality and diversity....

The next time you visit an Apple Store, expect to see a lot more Memoji. After today, Apple’s retail teams will greet you wearing custom new badges printed with their likeness — in Memoji form. If you’d like a virtual badge in the same style, there’s now a way to make your very own tag. Employee badges on lanyards were a signature part of the Apple Store aesthetic from the day the first locations opened in 2001....
