Apple has announced that all 14 of its final assembly plants in China are now zero-waste compliant, meaning that none of the waste is sent to landfill. Waste products are instead recycled, re-used, composted or burned to generate energy. Typically, paper and cardboard are sent to paper mills for recycling, glass & metal is melted for re-use, plastic is recycled into packaging materials and food is composted … The company has also said that one of its major glass suppliers in China, Lens Technology, has committed to run all its Apple operations on 100% renewable energy, though not immediately – the deadline for compliance is the end of 2018....

After launching its annual back to school promotions last month, Apple has now shared a new ad showcasing how college students use the Mac outside of the classroom. The new ad is a continuation of Apple’s “Behind the Mac” ad campaign. In the ad, Apple encourages students to “test the impossible,” saying that “the rules on what is possible and impossible in the arts were made by people who had not tested the bounds of the possible by going beyond them....

Apple today is continuing its ad campaign focusing on the Portrait Mode and Depth Control features on the iPhone XR and XS. The latest ad is called “Alejandro” and focuses on using Depth Control to remove someone from the background of an image. Today’s ad focuses on a jealous significant other seemingly using Depth Control to remove another person from a Portrait Mode image. Apple touts that Depth Control allows you to blur out people in the background to “get your portraits just right....

Apple’s stock price $AAPL is back into triple digits, breaking the $100 mark for the first time since June 6th. The rise doesn’t seem to be tied to any particular news event but AAPL stock has rallied through the second half of last week. The recorded high for today is $100.13 although naturally stock prices vary all the time. Eyes are on Apple’s earning results, due July 26, to see if the company can meet expectations after ending its 13-year record revenue streak last quarter....

As expected, Apple just announced its fiscal year 2014 first quarter results for the all-important holiday quarter. It’s Q3 report only included less than a month of sales for the new iPhone 5s, 5c and revamped MacBooks, making today’s report the first to include a full three-month period of sales for the new devices on top of the expected boost in revenue leading into the holidays. It’s also the first report since Apple shipped the new Retina iPad mini, iPad Air, and Mac Pro....

Apple’s lead over Samsung in smartphone sales, reported last month, may be short-lived, suggests a new report today. Gartner last month estimated that iPhone sales overtook combined sales of all Samsung smartphones in the final quarter of the year … A new TrendForce report out today agrees. The popularity of the iPhone 12 meant Apple overtook Samsung in smartphone sales in the final quarter of last year, the first time this has happened in four years, says Gartner....

Fortune is out today with its annual Businessperson of the Year list and this time around a couple notable Apple connections have made the list. Coming in at #4 behind #1Elon Musk, activist investors, and Tencent CEO ‘Pony’ Ma Huateng, is Apple’s recently hired Head of Retail, Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts. Ahrendts, who will leave her role has Burberry CEO to officially start work at Apple as Senior Vice President of Retail in Spring of 2014, will play a vital role in continuing to build Apple’s retail strategy after more than a year without someone in the position....

Earlier this week, it was reported that China had granted Qualcomm an iPhone import and sale ban as part of its legal case against Apple. While the ban has been unsuccessful at stopping iPhone sales in the country, a new legal filing from Apple in China offers more color on what would happen should a Chinese ban on the sale of iPhones go into effect. As reported by Bloomberg, Apple explained in the filing that it would be forced to settle with Qualcomm due to a Chinese ban on iPhone sales....

Alongside iOS 11, Apple introduced the ability for developers to release app updates in phases. Now, Apple has expanded that feature to the Mac App Store, announcing in a blog post today that developers can release updates over a 7-day period. In a post on the App Store Connect website, Apple explains that developers can now release macOS app updates in stages with a new Phased Release for Automatic Updates. Over a 7-day window, automatic app updates will rollout gradually, hitting 1 percent of users on day one and increasing from there....

We are receiving multiple reports of Apple telling developers that iTunes Connect will be undergoing scheduled maintenance today from 9am to 4pm Pacific Time. The iTunes Connect site is where content providers upload and manage their itunes submissions such as songs, movies, apps and more. Apple is advising developers not to make price changes during the blackout because that will cause apps to become unavailable for purchase....

Apple is rolling out macOS 10.12.2 beta 6 for Mac — the second release in three days. The new update follows the initial macOS 10.12.2 beta at the end of October and multiple additional builds since. A new report from Bloomberg today says that Apple is looking to revise its deals with the record industry. Specifically, Apple is seeking to lower the share of revenue that record labels receive from Apple Music plays… The report explains that Apple’s current deal with major labels is up at the end of June and both parties are currently in the process of renegotiating. Though, if a new deal isn’t reached by the end of the month, the current agreement will reportedly be extended for the time being....

I’ve been looking for a computer with the muscle to handle hardcore NLE video editing while working on a couple of musical compositions, checking the email, running an IM session and handling the hassle of Flash crashing in the browser, and I think Apple deliverd this very machine this morning — the new Mac Pro, a supercalifragilistic speed demon with up to 12 (yeah, count them) processing cores. Apple promises the new Mac Pro will deliver 50 percent greater performance than the previous generation....

When Apple released the first beta of iOS 9.3, iPad Pro users quickly discovered that the update essentially crippled the Apple Pencil’s functionality with the device. Since its release, the Apple Pencil had been able to be used to navigate throughout iOS, in addition to the oft-touted drawing capabilities. The 9.3 betas, however, removed the accessory’s ability to be used to navigate iOS. Apple has confirmed to The Verge, though, that the capability will return in the next beta....

To help developers transition their Intel Mac apps to run on forthcoming ARM Macs, Apple is offering developers a new Developer Transition Kit. This is Mac mini hardware featuring an A12X CPU. Apple will start shipping these developer kits later this week. Apple announced an aggressive schedule for the ARM transition. The company said it will release its first ARM Mac before the end of the year, and will complete the transition within two years....

Apple’s second major bond sale, designed to raise cash for the stock buybacks Tim Cook promised in the company’s latest earnings call, was more than three times over-subscribed, reports the WSJ. This followed a $17B bond sale almost a year ago, which set a new record for corporate debt. In both cases, Apple only had to offer interest rates marginally higher than Treasury bonds, which are considered the safest form of investment....
