An Apple support representative has told TNW that iPhone 6/Plus phones that have experienced warping in normal use would qualify for replacement under warranty if they pass a test known as “a visual mechanical inspection.” It should be noted that this is simply one AppleCare rep speaking, and not an official statement by Apple. Apple was not able to provide any information on what the test involves, though one commentator below suggests that it is simply comparing the phone to a set of reference photos used to distinguish phones damaged by misuse from those considered faulty....

The service has been offered in select stores from late last week, but has officially launched today according to Belkin’s website. The main benefit of the service is the assisted application, which prevents bubbles or imperfections from appearing on the screen when the protective cover film is applied … Air bubble problems are common with third-party screen protectors, as they have to be applied naively by hand. For the official experience, Apple employees will use a cloth to remove any dust from the iPhone before applying the protector with the mechanical system....

Siri appears to have mistakenly been telling users this morning that election day isn’t until November 8. A lot of users noticed this and took to Twitter with screenshots, calling out the digital assistant for its mistake. It appears that Apple has taken notice and got around to fixing the mistake. Now, if users were to ask Siri when election day is, they would get the correct answer of today, November 3....

Apple’s move into original television content will be ‘very challenging,’ suggests 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch. Murdoch made the comment at Re/code‘s Code conference, while describing Apple’s involvement in TV production as ‘dabbling’ … His remarks were quoted by CNET. Fox agreed in December of last year to sell 21st Century Fox to Disney for around $66B. That isn’t yet a done deal, with Comcast launching its own bid to buy the Fox division....

In an email sent out to book publishers, Apple has informed iBooks Author users of a new phone support system for the iBooks Publisher Support team, rolling out in a dozen countries, which will allow those with questions about iBooks Author to contact Apple directly to receive help about the application, publishing questions, and more. Apple has announced that it will be rolling out the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to an additional 36 countries this month, bringing the total number of markets to 69. The latest rollout will begin with India and Monaco alongside China on Friday. Today, Apple has updated its official App Store developers Review Guidelines to outline the requirements for iOS 8 applications that will make use of the new HealthKit, HomeKit, TestFlight, and Extensions services. You might think that Apple’s 29W power brick would be more than capable of powering both an iPhone 12 and Apple Watch on the MagSafe Duo charger. The combination of devices can, after all, be charged using as little as 15W. Apple has recently gained a new TV provider for its Single Sign-on feature on iOS 10 and up as well as tvOS 10 and up. WOW!, or Wide Open West, joins 13 other providers that let customers authenticate once through the Settings app to access content in paid video apps in the United States. Wide Open West, which is the ninth largest cable provider in the country, hasn’t yet been added to Apple’s list of TV provider partners since it was updated earlier this month, but WOW!...

Following yesterday’s news that Qualcomm is seeking an import ban on iPhones as part of its patent royalty dispute with Apple, Imagination Technologies has filed a formal dispute over its own licensing arrangements with the iPhone maker … Reuters reports that the company made the decision after informal talks failed. The dispute between the two companies is over GPU designs that Apple licenses from Imagination for its iOS devices. Apple currently pays the company around 30 cents per device, but last month informed Imagination that it expected to begin using its own designs within two years....

Apple has once more been dubbed the world’s favorite company after last year losing out to Google. Each year, FutureBrand looks at the world’s 100 largest companies and asks 3,000 consumers and industry professionals to score them on a range of factors, and to explain how they feel about their preferred companies. The two top feelings respondents had toward Apple were passion and admiration. Apple was ranked highly for individuality, authenticity, innovation and thought-leadership....

Following the release of iOS 5.0.1 to developers to test the new software against applications in addition to test for battery life and Siri improvements, Apple is now seeding iOS 5.0.1 to certain end users for testing. A small number of customers who have complained about battery life issues in iOS 5 have been seeded the bug fix release through Apple’s AppleSeed program. Apple warns program participants that their devices will not be able to be downgraded to iOS 5....

. Almost two weeks after the seeding of the initial OS X 10.7.4 beta, Apple has released a new build to developers. The new build is numbered 11E35 and, according to Apple, includes “no known issues.” Apple tells developers to focus on the App Store, graphics, QuickTime, Mail, and iCal. Almost two years ago to date, Apple acquired a Topsy Labs, an analytics company that made various products that searched and drew data from conversations happening on services like Twitter. Now, Apple has shut down the service according to a tweet from Topsy. “We’ve searched our last tweet,” Topsy said in a post on Twitter this evening. Going to Topsy’s website now redirects you to an Apple support article on how to use Search on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch....

Apple usually begins their Back to School promotion approximately three months prior to their annual fall music-related event. This Back to School promotion usually serves a way for Apple to clear out their iPod inventory ahead of an early September refresh for the lineup.
