Further expanding on its recent “If it’s not an iPhone, it’s not an iPhone” ad campaign, Apple today has uploaded a new iPhone ad to its YouTube channel. This ad highlights Apple Pay, Apple’s contactless payment solution. The ad marks the first time Apple itself has advertised Apple Pay, although some banks and credit cards have run Apple Pay ads independently. In the ad, Apple touts that using Apple Pay is more secure than using a credit card, in addition it being faster and simpler than other payment methods....

On the second day of Apple’s “12 Days of Gifts” promotion, the app is now offering a free download of Rovio’s ‘Tiny Thief’ app. This morning the 12 Days of Gifts app was offering a free pilot episode of TV show Once Upon a Time, but Apple appears to have now switched the gift to the ‘Tiny Thief’ app. It’s unclear if Apple mistakenly offered the TV show download for a short period of time or if it plans to offer various gifts throughout the day as part of the promotion....

Apple has strengthened its App Review Guidelines to require greater protection of children under 13 years and to clamp down on gambling apps that involve real money. Some of the changes were required in order to comply with tougher requirements in the newly-expanded Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which prohibits apps from collecting personal data from children under 13 without ‘verifiable parental consent.’ Personal data initially meant name, address, phone numbers, email address and present location, but has now been expanded to include photos, video and audio....

An updated look at progress made on Apple’s under construction Campus 2 over the last month arrives today courtesy of two new flyover videos. Of note, this month’s update from Duncan Sinfield shows that Apple has flipped the switch on some exterior lighting on the facility that makes it much more visible at night. Apple has made a formal complaint to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in response to resistance from Australian financial institutions to adopt Apple Pay. Apple says the country’s three largest banks have formed a monopolistic cartel and are collectively dictating terms of new payment business models, like Apple Pay. Apple has announced today that it will release its earnings report for the fiscal third quarter of 2021 on July 27. As usual, the company will release its Q2 2021 earnings report, then hold a conference call with investors and analysts to provide more detail. Apple’s fiscal Q3 2021 earnings will follow a record-setting Q2 2021 in which the company reported $89.6 billion in revenue and profit of $23.6 billion. Apple did not provide guidance for what to expect in Q3 2021, but it did warn that chip shortages could impact its businesses, particularly the Mac and the iPad....

Roughly two weeks after the initial release, Apple has pushed out an update to users testing the iOS 9 public beta on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Today, Apple sells apps in many regions with the prices shown as US Dollars irrespective of the local domestic currency. Apple released iOS 13.7 for everyone last week, which includes a major expansion of the COVID-19 Exposure Notification platform. Following this release, Apple has today stopped signing iOS 13.6.1. That means users can no longer downgrade from iOS 13.7 to iOS 13.6.1. iOS 13.7 lets users enable COVID-19 Exposure Notifications directly in the Settings app on their iPhone. Once you enable exposure notifications in the Settings app, your iPhone will begin monitoring with Bluetooth to log possible exposures so you can be notified of a potential COVID-19 exposure based on the guidelines set by your local public health authority....

Less than a month after relocating an aging store in Seattle’s University Village to a dramatically larger and more modern space nearby, Apple will do the same in Walnut Creek’s Broadway Plaza. According to a banner posted on the company’s retail website, the grand opening of the new Apple Broadway Plaza is set for July 28th at 10:00 A.M. Apple today released the first public version of iPadOS 13.1 to users.
