Update: The bad DNS entries appear to almost completely be purged and it appears that Apple services are working correctly. [tweet https://twitter.com/RaceJohnson/status/443882675011469312 align=’center’] Apple’s website and online stores are experiencing issues for many users, according to various tips and reports we’ve received across Twitter. Apple.com, iTunes, the App Store, and some other web services (but not all) are all reporting that they are unavailable. Some services (like iMessage and Game Center) seem to be unaffected at the moment....

Shortly after releasing iOS 6.0.2 to the masses this afternoon, Apple seeded build 12D43 of OS X 10.8.3 to developers. The folks in Cupertino have not listed any new features or known issues, but they asked developers to focus on AirPlay, AirPort, Game Center, Graphics Drivers, and Safari. A week following the previous build, Apple has released build 12E52 of the OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 beta to developers. Apple, once again, asks developers to focus on WiFi, Graphics Drivers, and Safari. We previously noted that 10.8.4 includes support for Mac computers with 802.11ac WiFi chips. While 10.8.4 is a minor update to OS X Mountain Lion, Apple also has a major release launching in the next couple of months....

Last week Apple’s open sourcing of Swift naturally saw the spotlight thrown over Apple’s open source pages. This included a paragraph that claimed Apple was “the first major computer company to make Open Source a key part of its strategy”. Unsurprisingly, this riled some members of the developer community as being disingenuous and untrue. So Apple has since changed the text to retract the rather outlandish statement with something a bit more muted....

Apple today has drastically simplified the iPhone trade-in program that allows eligible smartphones to be traded in for credit towards the purchase of a future device. Today’s changes allow customers to use the trade-in credit to help lower the cost of the a new iPhone purchase or to reduce monthly payments made to a carrier. With the changes to the trade up program consumers will now be able to get up to $250 in credit for their smartphones, down from the original $300....

2020 is (thankfully) coming to a close and Apple has shared some handy collections for what it considers the best content from this year. The lists include the most popular podcasts, books, audiobooks, and more like “Biggest Shows of 2020.” And in a first, Apple Podcasts has named a “Show of the Year” with the honor going to NPR’s Code Sw!tch. Apple shared the news on Twitter and across its Podcasts and Books apps in the Browse sections....

Last fall a growing number of iPhone users started experiencing random shutdowns, particularly with iPhone 6s. After Apple launched a battery repair program to solve the issue for some devices, they stated that the problem may be more widespread than first thought and that a fix for some iPhones could come in the form of a software update… Apple shared today with TechCrunch that a good portion of the affected devices are seeing the issue solved with iOS 10....

Apple has just started seeding out the third beta for tvOS 10 today to all current testers and developers. To update, check through the Software Update section on the Apple TV, or grab the Configuration Profile from Apple’s Developer center if you’d like to install it for the first time. tvOS 10 Beta 3 tvOS 10 introduces Dark Mode, Single Sign-on, HomeKit, and YouTube search to the latest Apple TV. tvOS 10 beta 2 brought in an entirely new UI for Apple Music with a Library view inspired by the iPod Classic’s UI....

At long last, Apple today has released a new version of the Apple Store app for iOS with support for Dark Mode. This update comes after Apple redesigned and revamped the Apple Support app with Dark Mode last month. The new Apple Store app interface is a mix of true black and dark gray design. It adheres to your iPhone or iPad’s system setting for Dark Mode, meaning it automatically changes based on your preferences....

Cupertino City Council last night voted unanimously to approve Apple’s planning application for the circular campus building first presented to council members by Steve Jobs in 2011, in what was to turn out to be his last public appearance before his death. It was Steve Jobs who nicknamed the building the ‘spaceship.’ Although the approval is still subject to a final vote on 15th November, the San Jose Mercury News reports that this is merely a formality....

Update 1/20: App Store Distribution Data updated today revealing iOS 8 adoption has climbed 1% from its previous measure at 68%. iOS 8 adoption now measures at 69% of active devices according to App Store data captured January 19th. The rate increase is in line with MixPanel’s increase to roughly 71% now up from roughly 70% toward the start of the month. Apple has shared its latest App Store Distribution Data on iOS 8 adoption to report that some version of its current mobile operating system is installed on 68% of iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches....

Bribery charges leveled against Apple security chief Thomas Moyer have been dropped by a Superior Court judge, who said that there was no evidence to support the prosecution. The same is true of two police officers. The case was a bizarre one, in which prosecutors alleged Moyer offered $70,000 worth of iPads in exchange for granting concealed weapons permits to members of Apple’s executive protection team … Background Moyer last year applied for concealed weapons licenses for four Apple employees tasked with protecting senior execs....

Apple this weekend has shared three new videos in the United Kingdom as part of its “There’s more to iPhone” marketing campaign. These videos focus on Face ID, iOS 12, and smartphone recycling practices. In the Face ID video, Apple attempts to dispel some of the privacy concerns with facial recognition software. The company says that “Face ID doesn’t store a photo of your face on iPhone, only a mathematical representation of it....

Apple today released iPadOS 13 for all iPad users with features like Dark Mode, keyboard gestures, new multitasking capabilities, a redesigned Home screen, and more. To highlight these capabilities, the company has also released four new videos on its Apple Support YouTube channel that show what users can do with iPadOS. The first video explains how to use the new Slide Over features available on iPadOS, which now allows to access recent and favorite apps with just a swipe quickly....

The Apple Store app for iOS has finally gained the ability to checkout using gift cards. The feature has been inexplicably missing since the app debuted, but with the latest version users will now be able to import new Apple Store gift cards using their device’s camera or pull in existing cards from Passbook. The new option can be found at checkout and requires first entering the gift card’s PIN....

AllThingsD, which seems to have a bead on Apple’s Fall Event, says the event will be held on Apple’s campus. OracleWorld is happening in the Moscone/Yerba Buena area during the October 4th announcement so that could be a reason for the move. Though Yerba Buena, the usual venue for such announcements, isn’t marked as booked. Also, Apple has much more control over the wireless access at its campus auditorium, something that had caused some issues during the iPhone 4 announcement....

Apple has officially announced its upcoming spring event (via @tim) scheduled for March 21st in Cupertino at Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop campus at 10 am PT/1 pm ET. The company is expected to introduce the 4-inch iPhone SE, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, new Apple Watch bands, software updates, and more. As for what’s in store for this event, this is what’s rumored and what we expect to see: Apple has historically saved new iPhone launches for the fall starting with the iPhone 4s in 2011, but we’re expecting that to change at this year’s spring event....

WWDC 2011 fever is officially happening. The Wall St. Journal reports: Earlier, CNet reported that Apple was also rushing to sign up movie studios: According to these people, deals with three labels have been completed, and the fourth, with Vivendi SA’s Universal Music Group, is likely to be signed this week. Apple has signed deals with Warner Music Group Corp., Sony Corp.’s Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Group Ltd. A tell tale sign that Apple has accomplished something in terms securing something for the WWDC keynote is that they released iWork for iOS today meaning it got bumped....
