Apple’s lawyers have been appointed to defend it against the lawsuit filed by Epic Games, from LA-based Gibson Dunn & Crutcher. The firm is an acknowledged leader in antitrust cases. The firm is the same one that gave Apple its victory in the second Apple versus Samsung patent infringement case … In that case, Samsung was found to have infringed five Apple patents, and the Cupertino company was awarded $539M in damages....
Apple’s annual World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) will be held next week (June 4–8) in San Jose. WWDC is the biggest event of the year for Apple, where they announce major new OS releases for all platforms. In preparation for the event, Apple has just released a new update for its official iOS app. This new version includes the schedule for the event with funny placeholder session names, which should be updated as soon as the keynote is over on Monday....
Update: Bloomberg adds more to WSJ’s report from earlier claiming that Apple’s new radio service will be tightly integrated with its iAd business. The report says Eddy Cue is currently making changes to the iAd business to support the new radio service scheduled to launch later this year alongside iOS 7: We’ve heard no shortage of rumors on the rumored iRadio streaming service from Apple that has taken on some new urgency after Google released a similar service at Google I/O last month (and plans to launch it on iOS soon)....
In a statement, Apple said that its upcoming App Tracking Transparency rules will be applied to all developers equally, worldwide. This follows reports that the state-backed Chinese Advertising Association had developed workarounds and was encouraging adoption of ‘CAID’ identifiers as an alternative, if the user opts out of allowing IDFA collection. App Tracking Transparency (ATT) is multi-faceted. At a technical level, it requires an app to show a permissions dialog and get explicit consent from the user to collect what is called an IDFA identifier....
Today, Apple has seeded the first beta build of OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.1 to developers. The build number is 12B13 and it is available from the Mac Developer Center web portal. Apple says that the initial 10.8.1 seed has zero known issues. However, Apple asks developers to focus on testing Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange in Mail, PAC Proxies in Safari, SMB, USB, and WiFi and Audio when connected to the Apple Thunderbolt Display....

We have just learned that Apple retail stores are having an “overnight” tonight to setup new Express Lanes. Apple has used these express lanes in the past to provide holiday shoppers a fast track to purchase Apple products and accessories. The zone are typically staffed with several Apple Specialists and stock popular laptop models, every iPad and iPod model. The fact that Apple is using the express lane again this year is a bit interesting because the new Apple Store app was released today, which adds self-checkout and in store pickup....
As we reported last month, Apple’s stock price has continued to climb repeatedly reaching all-time highs since its 7-1 stock split earlier this year. The company’s stock has been on the rise today as well putting Apple’s market capitalization on track to close at its highest point ever. An Apple brand ranking in China shows that the company fell from 11th place in 2018 to 24th place this year, likely as a result of consumer unhappiness with recent actions by the US government. The rankings are compiled annually by brand consultancy Prophet… Prophet says that the index asks consumers to rank brands by their relevance to their lives. Apple has announced a variety of changes to the App Store Review Guidelines today after multiple major App Store controversies over the last several months. An odd application made its way onto the iPhone App Store called “GameStore” a few days ago. The application was deemed an Apple internal testing tool for their iOS in-app-purchase system, and the June 2009 date -the month of the event in which in-app-purchase was formally announced- on the application’s store page seems to affirm that. The application was quickly removed from the App Store, and today, buyers were informed that refunds for the application were issued to their iTunes accounts....
Apple has sent care packages to its employees in China who are stranded in the country due to the coronavirus outbreak. The care package includes items like food, hand sanitizer, and a 10.2-inch iPad. Apple today has announced its annual celebration of the Chinese New Year. This year, the company’s promotion for the holiday is a one-day sale that will see customers receive a free pair of Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones with the purchase of a qualifying Mac or iPhone. Apple today released iOS 8 beta 4 to developers. It is now available via Software Update in Settings for those running earlier betas of iOS 8 on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Today we get our first glimpse at Apple’s plans for that upcoming flagship retail store that we noted earlier this week was in the works for Stockholm, Sweden. The images come from a presentation by Apple (via feber.se) showing off a model and renders of what the new retail location will look like located in Stockholm’s high profile Kungsträdgården area. The images and video show Apple’s plan for a single-floor Apple Store layout that isn’t unlike recent Apple Store designs, featuring floor to ceiling glass walls on at least two sides of the store and the usual wood table/demo area layout for products....
