Apple’s 4 for 1 stock split has taken effect as of Monday, August 31 and analysts are weighing in on how the move will impact the stock’s share price. While historically AAPL has seen on average a 10.4% increase 12 months after its stock splits, there are a couple of factors that could hint at stronger than average gains for Apple shares this time around. As we’ve previously noted, Apple’s stock split won’t directly increase its share price but the move normally encourages more investment, leading to post-split gains....

Apple is rolling out an updated version of the 1.0.276 firmware it rolled out to AirTags three weeks ago. This update likely makes further improvements to the anti-stalking features Apple announced earlier this month. Apple announced AirTag firmware version 1.0.276 on June 3 with new anti-stalking features. The original version of the firmware featured build number 1A276d, and today’s new release features build number 1A287b. As we detailed last month, the process of checking your AirTag firmware version is a bit hidden....

Apple tomorrow will open its latest flagship retail location in Chicago. The Michigan Avenue store features a gorgeous design that resembles a MacBook Air from the top, and Apple this week offered the first preview of the store as well as commentary from retail head Angela Ahrendts and designer Jony Ive… In a press release today, Apple shared new images of the Michigan Ave store, showcasing its placement on the Chicago River....

Apple announced last year that it was moving Chinese customer iCloud operations to China in an effort to comply with local laws, with the move officially taking place at the end of this month. Reuters today reports that among the information being are iCloud customer keys… Currently, all iCloud data is protected by strict security measures, with cryptographic keys being required to access any of the data. All of those details, including those of Chinese iCloud customers, are currently stored in the United States – meaning that data requests are subject to U....

As of today, you no longer need an AT&T plan to purchase an iPhone at an Apple Store. Apple’s new policy is that anyone can walk into an Apple Store and pick up an iPhone 8GB for $499, 16GB for $599 and 32GB for $699. They will allow one unit per customer per day up to 10 iPhones. The iPhones are still locked to AT&T’s network so unless you are going to jailbreak it (and I guess that is the assumption), you are still on AT&T....

Apple has announced this evening that its fiscal first quarter earnings call will take place on Tuesday, January 26th at the usual time 2PM PT/5PM ET, with the earnings release dropping roughly thirty minutes before that. The call will report earnings for the three-month period ending this month. Given that these results will cover the holiday shopping season, we should expect strong numbers from Apple. This is also the first full quarter during which the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been available, as well as the iPad Pro....

Amid their goal to even out prices internationally with those in the United States, Apple has raised prices (and lowered!) for applications across the international App Store. Of note for the UK, a 99 cent application (U.S.) now costs £0.69 up from the £0.59 of yesterday. Additionally, apps which were £1.19 are now £1.49. These changes are also international with a slight price drop in Switzerland and in Japan. Apps in Japan now start at 85 Yen versus the 115 Yen of yesterday....

During its Worldwide Developers Conference keynote, Apple demoed a new app called “Passbook” with its unveiling of iOS 6. The app allows you to manage boarding passes, movie tickets, store cards, and other passes that have QR codes, barcodes, or visual, scannable codes. Scott Forstall demonstrated how the feature is integrated into the iOS 6 lock screen by allowing cards or tickets to be displayed when—for instance—walking by a movie theatre....

After bringing the iTunes Festival to the US earlier this year at Austin SXSW, Apple’s annual music event in London kicking off next week has been the focus of much of the company’s attention recently. Update: Online chat with Apple support indicates Back to School is launching in Germany on August 8. It’s likely to roll out to the UK and other European countries the same day. Apple could be planning to launch its annual Back to School sales promotion within the next two weeks. Apple Stores, according to several employees, will be changing the front of store glass window displays overnight on June 30th. This is the usual timeframe in which Apple launches a promotion to boost Mac, iPad, and iPhone sales in anticipation of the new school year in the fall. Last year, the Back to School promotion consisted of $100 App Store gift cards for Mac purchases and $50 cards for iPad and iPhone purchases by students with their Student IDs....

Earlier today, a data dump from WikiLeaks stated that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency has a specialized unit within its Center for Cyber Intelligence that is devoted to obtaining zero-day exploits for iOS devices. The WikiLeaks information, however, also claimed that the CIA had lost control of the majority of its hacking arsenal. Apple this evening has issued a statement on the matter, saying that “many of the issues leaked today were already patched” in the most recent version of iOS....

When Jony Ive took over the role of leadership for Apple’s Human Interface in October of last year, many speculated that the style of Apple’s design language across iOS and Mac OS X would also shift towards a flatter, more clean style. This speculation was fueled mainly by Ive’s feelings towards skeuomorphism and his minimalist design aesthetic. Apple has issued its first public response to growing pressure by the FCC and other groups to activate FM terrestrial radio features inside iPhones for end-users. In a statement, the company said it cares deeply about the safety of its users and directed users towards its emergency calling and Medical ID features. It also revealed that is technically impossible for iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 to serve as an FM radio anyway, as they lack chips and antennas to support the signal....

Apple has updated its Investor Relations webpage today to announce that it will report its Q4 2019 earnings on October 30th. Following the release of its Q4 earnings, AAPL will hold a call with investors and analysts at 2PM PT/5PM ET. In trademark Apple event ceremony, the Apple Store is down ahead of the new product announcements at the 10 AM PT presentation at Apple Park. The store will return when the event concludes with promo pages for all of the new products — it is not guaranteed that anything will be available to buy today. We are expecting the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and the 6.1-inch iPhone ‘Xr’ to comprise most of the show, but we also expect a big segment for the fourth-generation Apple Watch....

Apple’s rumored HomePod mini is set to be unveiled during the “Hi, Speed” event next week, according to a pair of early morning reports on Friday. The HomePod mini will reportedly be available for $99 and announced during the event, but availability won’t begin until November. Today’s report from Kang follows earlier reporting from L0vetodream, who said that a HomePod mini was coming this year but that we should not expect a followup to the full-size HomePod in 2020....

Just over a week following the previous build, Apple has seeded OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 build 12E47 to registered Mac developers. The update is available via the Mac App Store for developers and should be on the Mac Developer Center shortly. Apple, once again, tells developers to focus on WiFi performance, Safari, and Graphics Drivers… We previously noted that 10.8.4 includes support for Mac computers with 802.11ac WiFi chips....

As Apple released iOS 14.2 to the public last week, the company today stopped signing iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1. That means users who have updated their devices to iOS 14.2 can no longer downgrade to iOS 14.1. iOS 14.1 was introduced in October with bug fixes and also initial support for iPhone 12 devices, including compatibility with 10-bit HDR videos in the Photos app. iOS 14.2 came two weeks later variety of changes and new features, including new emoji as well as new wallpapers....
