Following Apple’s CEO Tim Cook selling off approximately 20,000 shares of company stock in March, new filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange commission discovered by Fortune’s Philip Elmer-Dewitt show iOS chief Scott Forstall recently sold 64,151 shares worth roughly $38.7 million: Many reported the over 64k shares sold by Forstall represent 95 percent of his current holdings in Apple Inc. However, that is not entirely true, because two new retention bonuses are coming his way in in the years ahead....

Just last week, Apple Worldwide Marketing SVP Phil Schiller was tweeting a warning out to Android users to be safe in light of a recent F-Secure report which said the overwhelming amount of mobile malware floating around was on Android. Today, the WSJ reports that Schiller has more tough words for the Android platform (which today saw a change in leadership). Apple has released an update to its Podcasts app on the App Store today that introduces a few new features and fixes. Apple has dramatically increased the number of self driving vehicles it is testing, Bloomberg reports. The company first received approval from state officials last spring to test three self driving cars on the road, but new inquiries to the California DMW show Apple has since expanded its test fleet to 27 vehicles total. Like other companies testing self-driving car technology, Apple specifically deploys Lexus RX450h model SUVs equipped with loads of data collecting sensors....

Each publisher had different counterproposals, Apple said in a filing that described tough negotiations in detail. “Early — and constant — points of negotiation and contention were over Apple’s price caps and 30 percent commission. After Apple sent draft agency agreements to each publisher CEO on January 11, each immediately opposed Apple’s price tiers and caps,” Apple said in its 81-page proposed findings of fact. Apple is now the only defendant in the case filed in April 2012 as the 4 other publishers originally accused in the lawsuit, including Pearson, Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, and HarperCollins, have already reached settlements and agreed to return to their old pricing scheme for a certain period of time....

On the heels of releasing iOS 11 today, Apple has published a few new how-to videos to its YouTube channel promoting what’s now possible with its latest mobile OS and iPad. About a month ago, Apple released 6 videos showcasing iPad + iOS 11 features and new ways to make the tablet more capable than ever. Today’s videos include 3 new one-minute long how-to shorts as part of the same series released last month and one video that has been updated....

Apple didn’t just announce a $5000 monitor during WWDC: it also announced an optional $1000 monitor stand to go with it. There wasn’t too much reaction to the $4999 starting price of the monitor itself, or even the $1000 premium for the low-reflectivity upgrade. This is a true reference-grade monitor designed for critical color work by photographers, videographers, and filmmakers. Similar monitors typically cost upwards of $10,000, and Apple compared it to one costing $43,000....

As noted on the official schedule website for the 2018 SXSW Conference & Festival held in Austin, TX, Apple’s Director of Global Accessibility Policy and Initiatives will make a public appearance at the annual event. In a new post on its developer website today, Apple has announced that developers can now offer customized applications to education institutions through Apple School Manager. According to Apple, developers can identify organizations via App Store Connect, and give those organizations the ability to purchase the customized app via Apple School Manager in volume. Apple also notes that educational institutions can tap into this feature for distributing proprietary apps used internally....

Apple has shared a Newsroom post today featuring four Canadian App Store developers as well as highlighting the growth that the platform has seen in the country over the last year. Along with the almost 20% rise in Canadian developers, Apple says it has paid out more than $2 billion CAD in total earnings since 2008. And the majority of that revenue for Canadian devs comes from other countries. As the pandemic forced people across Canada to adapt every aspect of their lives and brick-and-mortar businesses to move online, the iOS app economy was a resilient source of opportunity, innovation, and economic growth....

Apple today stopped signing iOS 14.5.1, an update that was released in early May with important security fixes. That means users who have updated their devices to iOS 14.6 or iOS 14.7 beta can no longer downgrade to iOS 14.5.1. iOS 14.5.1 was released on May 3 with a fix for a bug that prevented some users from seeing App Tracking Transparency prompts. In addition, the update patched a security breach in WebKit that allowed attackers to use malicious web content that led to arbitrary code execution....

iPhone XR pre-orders begin later this month on October 19th, and today Apple has updated its Apple Store app for iOS to prepare for that launch. With today’s update, Apple says iPhone Upgrade Program members will be able to use Siri Shortcuts to pre-order their iPhone XR. Today’s update brings the Apple Store app to version 5.1.1. Apple explains that the update includes support for Siri Shortcuts as an “even faster way” to complete iPhone XR pre-orders later this month....

As part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to update their smaller or aging retail locations around the world, the company’s White Plains, NY store will be closed starting May 6th for a significant renovation.
