Tomorrow is officially Earth Day and while it has already revealed some of its efforts, Apple this evening has uploaded a new video to its YouTube channel highlighting its green initiatives. The ad, entitled “iMessage – Renewable Energy,” highlights the company’s renewable energy efforts and encourages every one to “show some love for the earth.” In the ad, Apple uses iMessage to explain how everyday users of services like iMessage are taking advantage of its green initiatives....

Apple introduced its own translator this year, which comes as a standalone app on the iPhone and also as a built-in feature in Safari for iOS 14 macOS Big Sur users. Although the Translate app works with 11 languages, the built-in Safari translator was restricted to some regions — which is changing now as Apple is now rolling out this option to more countries. For some unknown reason, the Safari translator wasn’t available in all countries supported by the Translate app....

Following on from HealthKit and ResearchKit, Apple has today launched its third medical framework, CareKit. First announced last month, CareKit allows users to collect medical data that can be shared with physicians and other carers to provide an accurate log of symptoms and signs to assist with diagnosis and treatment. Four CareKit apps are available as of today … The more you know about your health, the better you can look after it....

According to a new sign placed on the covered store’s entry, Apple’s first retail location in South Korea will open on January 27th. The grand opening comes later than expected, with initial reports expecting the store to open before the end of 2017. This photo posted on a South Korean forum shows text added below the colorful banners we first reported last week, seemingly solidifying January 27th as the store’s official opening date....

An incredible new Apple store inside New York City’s landmark Grand Central Terminal – one of Apple’s largest stores in the world – is set to open this morning at 10am and already hundreds have queued up. The Fortune’s Philip Elmer-DeWitt snapped up the above shot showing staffers on the balconies above Grand Central Terminal and hundreds of fans stretching all the way down one track and part-way back. The company will treat avid fans to cool perks, such as 4,000 black shirts with “Apple Store, Grand Central” spelled out in lettering, resembling a train arrival board....

Apple is about to roll out its Volume Purchase Program, which allows business and education customers to purchase and distribute iOS apps in bulk for deployed devices, into 16 new countries. Apple’s website for both the Volume Purchase Program for Business and for Education have been updated to announce the expansion and now list the following countries as coming soon to the program: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan,Turkey, and United Arab Emirates....

Apple responded to the latest EU efforts to enforce a standardized single connector for smartphones like the iPhone, saying that “regulation that forces conformity across the type of connector …. stifles innovation” (via the Financial Times). Apple said that the proposed EU rules would force it to abandon the Lightning port and inconvenience consumers, as well as cause vast amounts of electronic waste from people needing to ditch all of their existing Lightning accessories, like docking stations and car adapters....

Apple this evening is out with its latest Apple Pay-focused advertisement. This video focuses on Apple Pay Cash and how it can be used between roommates to easily handle things such as rent payments. The video comes in at 15 seconds long and is entitled ‘Apple Pay – Just text them the money.’ In the video, a renter is reminded that rent is due soon, so they use Apple Pay Cash in the Messages application to pay the $700....

We learned earlier this morning via an email to Apple employees affected by the store and office closures due to coronavirus that the re-opening date of February 10 would likely be pushed back. Now Apple has shared more details that the new plan is to open most stores and offices late next week (via Bloomberg). A comment from Apple to Bloomberg echoes what the company’s SVP of people and retail previously told employees in a letter....

Apple is reportedly running the largest Apple Pay promotion in China since the service launched there almost 18 months ago. The company is offering discounts of up to 50%, and points rewards of up to 50 times the usual number, for using the service at 28 major retail outlets and 16 online stores. The major push is in response to the greatest challenge faced by Apple Pay in the country …...

Apple’s VP of inclusion and diversity, Denise Young Smith, made an appearance this week at the One Young World Summit in Colombia and caught fire for some of the statements she made. According to TechCrunch, however, the Apple executive has apologized to employees for her choice of words… At the event this week, Smith was explaining how Apple focuses on diversity and commented that there could be 12 white blue-eyed blonde men in a room who are still diverse:...

According to Chipworks, there are actually two different sized A9 processors floating around in the iPhone 6s and 6s plus released last week. That’s not really a surprise because Apple likes to have redundancy, especially when one of the manufacturers is Samsung. We’d heard that both Samsung and TSMC would be producing A9 processors destined for the iPhone 6s. However, there appears to be a difference in size of the two A9s which might play a role in how the iPhone performs…...

Over the weekend, Bloomberg said that its sources indicated that the Apple AirPods Pro were beating sales expectations. Now, Nikkei is also corroborating that line of thinking quoting supply chain sources in China who say that Apple has doubled AirPods Pro orders from 1 million to ‘at least’ 2 million units per month. The standard AirPods with wireless charging case have sold well throughout their lifetime and AirPods Pro are very much set to continue that trend....

As part of today’s Mountain Lion Preview roll out, Apple seeded its registered developers with new versions of the Xcode development environment and the Safari browser. Safari 5.2 for Lion, now available for download through the Dev Center, welcomes new features that cannot be found in the most recent Safari 5.1.3 version for end-users or the recently seeded Safari 5.1.4 for developers. Apple took a page from Google’s book by integrating the search bar into the address bar (finally, some would say) in Safari 5....

Apple’s machine learning efforts have been highlighted in the past, but the company’s artificial intelligence director dove deeper during a speech this week. As outlined by Wired, Ruslan Salakhutdinov took the stage to offer a closer look at how Apple is using machine learning… Salakhutdinov’s speech was at a machine learning conference called NIPS, which has been held for the last thirty-one years and has grown exponentially over recent years, attracting 8,000 people this year....

Following today’s Keynote address, Apple has updated its refurbished storefront with several price drops and new listings. The most notable savings can be found on previous-generation iPhone and iPad models. Apple Watch Series 3 is also seeing reduced pricing. As always, this is a great way to save further on Apple devices, as each listing comes with a full warranty, original accessories, and eligibility for Apple Care. Many of today’s price drops are reflected on legacy products, including iPhone 7 and 8 along with the 6th-generation iPad....

As it always does ahead of earnings season, Apple today updated its Investor Relations webpage to announce that it will hold its Q3 2017 earnings call on Tuesday, August 1st, 2017. The call will be held at 2PM PT/5PM ET with the earnings release dropping 30 minutes before that… Apple’s third quarter earnings release follow a strong performance in Q2, which saw the company bring in revenue of $52.9 billion on sales of 50....

Today’s special Apple event can already be replayed on Apple’s website and on the company’s official YouTube channel, as well as the videos of new products. Apple announced during its September 2020 event the 8th generation iPad, 4th generation iPad Air, Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE, Apple One subscription bundle, software updates, and more. This was Apple’s second totally online event following WWDC 2020 in June, as the press was unable to attend the event in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic....

Apple Arcade is leveling up in Apple Stores across the world with eye-catching new displays and a sharper focus on accessories to enhance the gaming experience. The new merchandising designs began appearing today at Apple’s latest stores in countries where Apple Arcade is available. Apple Stores have featured a kids and gaming Avenue for several years, long before Apple Arcade was announced. The display began as a place to highlight gaming accessories for iPad and Apple TV and evolved into a hub for learning and coding accessories and iOS-connected toys....

At last night’s ADC Awards in New York City, Apple was honored for their work on last May’s ‘Barbers’ ad, a 1-minute piece promoting Portrait Mode on the iPhone 7 Plus. Each year, the ADC (Art Directors Club of New York) celebrates leaders in creative communications. The most prestigious award given is the Black Cube for Best In Show. Apple and production company Furlined not only picked up the Black Cube, but a Gold Cube award for Best In Motion And Film Craft as well....
