Apple has announced this evening that its fiscal second quarter earnings call will take place on Monday, April 25th at the usual time 2PM PT/5PM ET, with the earnings release dropping roughly thirty minutes before that. The call will report earnings for the three-month period ending this month. Coming on the heels of a strong holiday quarter, this earnings call should feature a very early look at iPhone SE sales, which are said to be strong in China already, as well as insight in to iPad Pro performance....

Back in 2018, Apple started cracking down on third-party iOS parental control apps. In the wake of that, the Russian Federal Anti-monopoly Service (FAS) investigated Apple and found the company guilty of market abuse. Now the official fine has been announced with Apple owing $12 million to the Russian government. One of the company’s to file a formal complaint that led to the Russian investigation was Kaspersky Lab. And the FAS concluded in August 2020 that “Apple Inc....

Apple, as it usually does following the release of new versions of iOS, has stopped signing iOS 10.3.3 and iOS 11. The company originally released iOS 11 last month and has since pushed two iterative bug fix updates to users. Now that Apple has stopped signing iOS 10.3.3, it’s seemingly impossible for users to return to pre-iOS 11 firmware. This means that if you’re currently on an earlier version of iOS and wish to stay there, be sure you don’t accidentally update as there’s no way to downgrade....

As we reported earlier this month, Apple was set to appeal a $1.2 million fine imposed by Italian anti-trust authorities Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato. The authorities argued Apple is misleading consumers by selling its one-year AppleCare warranties without informing customers of a two-year warranty mandatory by European Union law. Apple officially lost the appeal in court this week, which forced the company to pay the €900,00 fine and alter its AppleCare policies to properly inform consumers going forward....

Apple has released an update for its Human Interface Guidelines resources for developers. The changes bring a new logo and buttons for Sign In with Apple, icon for Apple Health, Apple Pay templates, and more. Apple shared the changes to the design resources today in a post on its Developer site: Sign In with Apple resources added, including: New logo (PDF, PNG, and SVG) Centered buttons (Sketch, Photoshop, and XD)...

Update: The copy has been changed to ‘Coming This Fall,’ hinting that the September mention was indeed an error. When Apple announced the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR last week, the company would only say that the products are launching this ‘fall’. The fall date was noted in both Apple’s keynote and press releases. However, if you look at the Apple homepage right now, there’s a link to get notified about forthcoming Mac Pro news....

Following the retail launch of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c in Apple Stores and retail partners around the world today, Apple has provided a statement to AllThingsD calling demand for the new iPhones “incredible”. Apple also noted that the iPhone 5s is only available in limited supplies and sold out in many stores, lining up with what we first reported yesterday: Yesterday we reported that many stores were getting little to no gold and or silver/white units of the new iPhone 5s, and that most retail outlets would only have the Space Grey model available for sale....

The Chinese Labor Watch group released a lengthy report alleging several violations of Chinese law against Foxconn, the key iPhone assembler. Apple said it investigated and denies most of the allegations but did say that it found Foxconn’s iPhone factory workforce was made up of 50% temporary labor, way above the 10% rule according to the law. Although Apple nor Foxconn will say explicitly, this is clearly a result of the usual supply chain rush to manufacture Apple’s new iPhone models, believed to be called iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, ready for the September sales season....

Apple has just released an update for the developer seed of OS X 10.9.1. The new version has a build number of 13B35 and includes fixes for the Mail app, VoiceOver, Safari, and VPN server support. The presence of the release notes indicate that the update is nearing completion and will be available to the public soon. This update comes just a few weeks after updates to the Mail and iBooks software were released to resolve issues with those apps....

Apple seems to have acquired Cue, a former personal assistant application for the iPhone. TechCrunch says that the purchase price was in the realm of $40 million, and AppleInsider initially reported the rumor this morning. Cue’s service shut down yesterday, leading to the acquisition chatter. The company gave its “sincerest thanks” to users, but did not provide detail behind the closure… The application was sort of a mixture of iOS 7’s Notification Center “Today” View, Google Now, and Siri....

As it continues to focus on regional campaigns rather than global ones, Apple today shared four new AirPods comercials to its U.K. YouTube channel. The videos are all under 20 seconds in length and highlight different U.K. artists… The new ads, like one debuted earlier this year, feature the AirPods placed as musical notes, moving along as the song progresses. The first ad, which was previously shared on Apple’s main YouTube channel, features music by Marian Hill, while the second one highlights The 1975....

Update: The Apple online store is back online without any notable changes. Apple’s online store has gone down this afternoon without explanation. If you visit the website, you’ll see a message reading “Be right back, we’re making updates to the Apple Store. Check back soon.” Apple took down its online education store last week when it launched its annual Back to School promotion, as well as a new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro....

Last month, Apple introduced new iWork suites for both OS X and iOS. The new applications feature entirely new designs and are built-up a new 64-bit architecture for increased speed. However, as we previously noted, many long-time iWork users have found that the new versions lack several features that have existed in previous releases. Today, Apple has responded to these complaints and has said that it will be restoring several of the missing features over the course of the next 6 months....

Apple is rolling out a fix for the iCloud Calendar spam issue that has plagued users over the past few weeks. On iCloud.com, the company has added a new Report Junk feature. This lets users remove spammy invites from their calendar and reports the sender to Apple for further investigation. The feature is currently only available on Apple’s iCloud.com Calendar web app but it is likely to roll out to the iOS and Mac native Calendar in a future software update …...

Apple’s Beats Electronics and Bose have settled a lawsuit over noise-cancelling headphone technology and asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to end its investigation into the matter. Bloomberg reports: Bose and Beats in joint filings told a U.S. court in Delaware they’ve settled their claims, and asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to terminate its investigation… Bose originally sued Beats Electronics in July not long after Apple announced its $3 billion deal to acquire the headphone maker....

Apple has added an additional TV provider to its list of partners supporting its Single Sign-on feature for iOS 10 and tvOS 10. Cable ONE joins ten other providers that let customers authenticate once through the Settings app to access content in paid video apps. The full list of TV provider partners now includes these eleven providers: Cable ONE CenturyLink Prism DIRECTV Dish GTA GVTC Communications Hawaiian Telcom Hotwire MetroCast Service Electric Cablevision Sling TV Big name TV providers like Comcast and Verizon are still not yet supported....

Apple has today announced the official name of its spaceship campus: Apple Park. The new headquarters complex had previously been referred to as Apple Campus 2. The 1,000-seat auditorium will be named the Steve Jobs Theater. The company also revealed the timeline for employees to move into the campus, as well as sharing a few high-resolution images (below) … Apple began hiring staff for the campus back in November. Apple Park, the company’s new 175-acre campus, will be ready for employees to begin occupying in April....

Apple has announced today that developers will be required to provide new privacy details to users in the App Store starting December 8. These privacy “nutrition labels” were first introduced at WWDC over the summer, with Apple saying the goal is to better inform consumers of the privacy practices of individual applications. In a post on the Apple Developer webpage today, Apple confirmed that the new privacy details will be required for new apps and app updates to the App Store starting on December 8....

Update: Tim Cook has tweeted a message saying (in Turkish) ‘We celebrate the National Sovereignty and Children’s Day in Turkey with great photographs taken by young talents.’ Apple has posted three new Shot on iPhone ads to its Apple Turkey YouTube channel. The fifteen-second spots are special in that all three videos have been taken by 11-year old children using an iPhone 7. The clips include quirky uses of perspective and slow-mo to create some clever sequences....
