Apple has added some additional information to the Developer Portal’s maintenance page stating that memberships that were supposed to expire during the unexpectedly-long downtime have been extended to accommodate for the issue and apps will remain on the store until the portal is available again and developers can properly renew their accounts: Update: Developers with memberships set to expire while the portal is down have received emails stating they have received a one week extension....

Ahead of Apple’s services event tomorrow, CNET is out with an interesting look at how Apple services push will affect its relationship with developers and competitors. The report dives into the pushback Apple is facing for its 30 percent cut of App Store sales, and more. As the report notes, Apple’s push into services comes as it is currently facing a pair of antitrust complaints. Earlier this month, Spotify filed an antitrust complaint with the European Commission alleging that Apple isn’t “playing fair” when it comes to the App Store....

Apple today showed a trailer for its upcoming drama thriller See featuring Jason Momoa. The show plot revolves around what would it be like if the human race was blind. This is the sixth trailer for Apple TV+’s lineup shows. Apple also said that its trailers to date had been viewed over 100 million times. Apple TV+ will start airing on November 1 in the Apple TV app, with more content added every month....

First noted by iGen.FR, Apple has slightly raised the prices of the iPhone 5s and 5c in France. As shown above, the increase ranges between €10 for the 16 GB model, €12 for the 32 GB model and €18 for the 64 GB model. In terms of dollar value, when converted, these changes are equivalent to a rise of about $13 – $25. The same price increase applies to the 5c, again dependent on capacity, going from €599 to €609 for the 16 GB model and from €699 to €711 for the 32 GB variant....

Following the launch of OS X Lion, Apple has begun updating its Mac keyboards with new Lion-specific controls. Specifically, the new MacBook Air sports dedicated Mission Control and Launchpad keys instead of the previous model’s Expose and Dashboard shortcut buttons. Now, as shown in images from iSpazio, Apple has begun swapping out the Expose and Dashboard keys with these Mission Control and Launchpad keys on their standalone keyboards. The keyboard, pictured above, is Apple’s wired keyboard, but it makes sense that these new controls will move over to the wireless version of the keyboard, too....

Variety reports this evening that Jane Krakowski will star in Apple’s upcoming TV series “Dickinson,” which follows the life of poet Emily Dickinson. Krakowski joins Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the title character. In the show, Krakowski will play Emily Dickinson’s mother. Krakowski is a popular comedic actor, starring in TV shows such as Netflix’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” for which she earned an Emmy nomination. She’s also starred in “30 Rock,” “Modern Family,” and many more....

An insightful Reuters blog by financial journalist Felix Salmon suggests that Apple’s surprisingly low share price may be due to the evolving nature of the company leaving it between two sets of investors. Apple always used to be the company which surprised and delighted investors and customers alike. Its guidance to investors was deliberately pessimistic, blowing through those figures when it reported actual revenue and earnings. It was notoriously secretive about new products, launching new ones in a playful manner with Steve Jobs’ famous ‘One more thing‘ moments…...

Denise Young Smith is leaving Apple at the end of the year, TechCrunch has reported. Young Smith currently serves as Apple’s first VP of Inclusion and Diversity, a position created for her after Deidre O’Brien took over general HR duties. Denise Young Smith started her role as head of human resources back in 2014, then Deirdre O’Brien took HR responsibilities as part of her new role of VP of People in September....

Apple has launched a replacement program for the USB-C cable that came bundled with 2015 Retina MacBook units, finding that some cables were faulty. Bad cables would result in the MacBook not charging, or charging unreliably when connected to a power adapter. From Apple’s help site, affected customers can order a free replacement USB-C cable. Retina MacBook owners who provided a mailing address at product registration will be shipped a new cable automatically by the end of February … If you did not provide this information when buying the MacBook, visit Apple’s site to order a replacement cable instead …...

Apple has today shared that it will be attending the 32nd Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS). Apple will have members of its ML team at a booth and notes it has many open positions as it works to build “a team of exceptional researchers and engineers.” Apple announced the news on its Machine Learning Journal website today, encouraging attendees to stop by its table. Notably, the announcement highlights that it’s looking to fill a variety of machine learning positions, 137 of them to be exact....

Apple has seemingly fixed a problem from over the weekend that caused the iTunes Podcast charts and the charts in the Podcasts app to display inaccurate rankings. Business Insider highlighted the issue today, explaining that numerous popular podcasts had been pushed down the charts by unheard of, low-reviewed podcasts. For instance, the ever-popular Serial podcast, which is releasing weekly episodes as part of Season 3, was pushed to the 26th spot on the iTunes Podcast charts, with the top spots overtaken by real estate, fitness, and business podcasts....

A woman in Iowa is crediting Apple’s “Find My” app with helping her track down her car after it was stolen. As reported by KCCI Des Moines, 19-year-old Victoria O’Connor had her car stolen on Monday night after she left it running outside of a QuickTrip. Because her phone was also in the car, she quickly turned to “Find My” to track it down. O’Connor had been “practically living in her car” because a fire destroyed her apartment building in September....

Apple’s decision to use an OLED screen on the iPhone 8 will significantly accelerate adoption by other smartphone manufacturers, says a Trendforce report. The WitsView division of the company suggest that adoption will hit 50% by 2020. The prediction highlights ‘the Apple effect’ when it comes to new technology … Apple generally isn’t the first to adopt new technology. It usually takes a watching brief, aiming to produce the best product later, rather than to be first to market....

Citron Research took to Twitter today with a decisive message: “ROKU stock is uninvestable now”. Immediately after, the stock plunged nearly 10%. This comes after a tremendous 25% gain just 24 hours prior, when newly released strong Q4 streaming numbers boosted the stock drastically. The turn of events come amid Apple’s unprecedented partnerships with previously taboo television manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony and LG. Apple is upgrading HomeKit this fall with new features like Secure Video and expanded automation, but it’s not all good news for Apple’s smart home framework. The Home app where users manage the smart home experience makes one design choice that is likely meant to make it more approachable. In practice, the change degrades the experience for a whole category of HomeKit products. Difficulty managing the Home app at a glance when more than a few accessories are added has been a common complaint about the app’s design from the start....

Market intelligence company Kantar said that iOS market share in the U.S. fell from 40.6% in the three months ending in October 2016 to 32.9% in the same quarter this year. Apple saw similar significant drops in other key markets, says the firm, as customers waited for the iPhone X to go on sale. Kantar says that the drop was inevitable, but still puts pressure on Apple … It noted that this was reflected in the percentage of iPhone owners still waiting to upgrade in October, at 35....
