The special camera feature is only available on the iPhone 7 Plus which has a dual camera system for 2x optical zoom. Apple is in the process of updating the iPod touch units used by Apple Store employees as a mobile point-of-sale system to the iPhone 5s, according to sources familiar with the roll out. Apple first started using its iPod touch as an “EasyPay” system for employees in its retail stores back in 2009 and currently uses 4th gen iPod touch or previous models for staff. Apple employees Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre have been planning an undergraduate academy for entrepreneurs at the University of Southern California for a few years now, and this week the Beats co-founders officially broke ground for the project, ABC reports. Named the “Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation,” the 10,000-square foot academy is expected to open fall 2019 with a focus on art and design, engineering and computer science, and business....
TechCrunch claims to have also heard that Apple is planning a late-January event that will focus on its media-related business. The event, first reported this morning, is said to involve Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue. Cue’s responsibilities range from the App Store, iTunes Store, iAd, iCloud, and iBooks. TechCrunch’s report adds some new tidbits: they said that Apple’s late-January event will not feature any hardware at all (previously said to lack mention of a new iPad or television), but will rather be solely about iBooks and publishing....

Apple’s TV lineup is continuing to fill out with new original content projects being approved. The latest show-to-be, according to Variety, is called Home and will be a documentary series based on ‘extraordinary’ houses and their creators. Variety says the series will include 10 episodes to start, each lasting one hour. The docuseries joins a roster of already-approved shows destined for Apple’s upcoming TV service. Apple shuttle drivers – the people who drive the buses who normally ferry staff to work – are still being paid their full wages during the coronavirus shutdown, but the Teamsters union says that it had more trouble agreeing with the iPhone maker than any other tech company … Business Insider reports. Yesterday, Apple updated its iWork apps for iOS and OS X with added features including Split View for iPad, 3D Touch for iPhone 6s, and bonuses for El Capitan. Missed at the time was the fact that Apple also deemed the web-based version of iWork worthy of full consumption by the public, too. Apple removed the ‘beta’ label from iWork for iCloud, while also adding a number of new features. The browser-dependent iWork suite now supports commenting on documents, and has support for ten new languages....
According to a report from TechCrunch, Apple plans to shut down the Beats Music streaming service it recently acquired through its acquisition of Beats. The report cites several sources close to the situation including “several prominent employees at Apple and Beats”: Many engineers from Beats Music have already been moved off the product and onto other projects at Apple, including iTunes. It’s not clear when exactly Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre’s music service will be shut down or what Apple will do with streaming, but every source with knowledge of the situation that we talked to agreed Apple plans to sunset the Beats Music brand....
Earlier today, we noted that Apple had told support staff that the iPad mini with Retina display would be launching in several countries on November 12th. Because Apple typically does not inform this particular staff group of product launch information before they’d put it in a press release, we were initially skeptical. Perhaps backing up an imminent Retina iPad mini launch, the Apple Store has gone offline for maintenance worldwide. The store is even down in countries not listed as iPad mini Retina launch countries in our earlier report....
While Apple is widely expected to switch from LCD to OLED displays for future iPhones from either 2017 or 2018, one company is suggesting that the move made be a purely temporary one. Digitimes quotes Innolux chairman and CEO Wang Jyh-chau arguing that OLED is not suitable as a permanent replacement for LCD. According to a new report from Variety, Apple is among the tech companies negotiating with the NFL for digital rights to Thursday Night Football. Earlier this month, the National Football League inked deals with CBS and NBC to divide the TV rights for Thursday games over the next two seasons, but streaming to non-subscribers was not included in that deal. One thing to consider is that for users in the United States, the Thursday night games will already be available via streaming from CBS and NBC, depending on who is broadcasting that week’s game....
