Apple has seeded today beta 5 of tvOS 14.5 and HomePod 14.5. After four betas, the company seems to be approaching the final release of the tvOS for the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K, as well as HomePod 14.5 for the HomePod and HomePod mini. Both the software have the same build: 18E5186a. While developers and public beta users can download beta 5 of tvOS 14.5 for the Apple TV, only invited developers can try the HomePod beta....
Apple has today stopped signing iOS 12.2 following last week’s release of iOS 12.3 to the public. That means users are no longer able downgrade to the previous 12.2 release from devices that are already running iOS 12.3. Apple typically stops signing older versions of iOS a week or two after the public release of the latest build. iOS 12.3 was released last week with the new TV app including Apple TV Channels, bug fixes and improvements for Apple News+, Apple Music, Apple TV Remote, AirPlay 2, CarPlay, and more....
As we reported would happen earlier this week, Apple this evening has updated its Apple Store app with support for Watch. From the app, users can get real-time order status updates, initiate the process of picking up an order, make and search for Genius Bar appointments, and discover events and workshops taking place in nearby Apple Stores. The update is available on the App Store now. We reported earlier this week on the update and noted that since the Apple Watch does not have a keyboard, more detailed processes will have to be completed on the user’s accompanying iPhone....
In a move designed to save $1B a year, Apple is now replacing damaged iPhone screens in-store in place of its previous policy of swapping them for a new handset. 512pixels.net grabbed this photo of the machine used to calibrate the screens after replacement. The move is good news for customers too, as out-of-warranty screen replacements will cost $149 instead of the $229 cost of a replacement handset, and you won’t have to restore your data from backup (although you are of course still advised to do a backup before any kind of repair is carried out)....
Apple system status page is currently reporting an error with the iMessage service. For the last few hours, Apple says ‘users may be unable to access this service’. Based on some reader reports on social media, some users are currently unable to send iMessages to their friends. Customers may also be presented with an Apple ID log-in screen, as the authentication server is temporarily unavailable. As a user, there’s not much you can do apart from try on a different device and/or wait for Apple to resolve the backend problems....
Last month, Apple somewhat surprisingly released a physical book called “Designed By Apple In California” chronicling 20 years of its product design. Coinciding with the launch, Apple shared a new video of Jony Ive discussing the book. With continued concern about the battery life of the 2016 MacBook Pro models, ArsTechnica has written a short piece outlining some of the obvious and less obvious reasons many users are experiencing as little as half the usage time claimed by Apple. There have been anecdotal reports of battery life being improved by the 10.12.2 update (hands-on video), but the site reports that Apple ‘told us repeatedly and emphatically that it had taken no specific steps to improve MacBook Pro battery life in this update....
The iOS 14.6 RC released to developers and public beta users last week revealed an unannounced new pair of Beats Studio Buds earbuds. Now, those earbuds have officially received FCC approval, further suggesting that an official announcement could be imminent. The FCC filing was first spotted by the folks at MyHealthyApple. The filing does not reveal any additional information about the features or design of the headphones, but rather servers as additional corroboration and indication of an impending release....
The Mayo Clinic announced today that it now supports Apple’s Health Records feature. This means that Mayo Clinic patients with a Patient Online Services account can now use Health Records to access health data directly from their iPhone. Using Health Records within the Apple Health app on iPhone allows users to gather their health data from different providers and institutions into a single location. It also allows users to see their health records alongside data collected by other third-party apps and from the Apple Watch....

Apple today has shared a new trailer for its upcoming documentary based on Sean “Diddy” Combs, aka Puff Daddy. The documentary, from Live Nation Productions, will be an Apple Music exclusive and will debut on June 25th… “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story” follows Puff Daddy for a three-week rehearsal period as he reunites with members of his Bad Boy Records label for a sold out show at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn....
Less than two months after the Saudi Arabia government cleared Apple to begin marketing products and officially operate in the region, Apple has struck a sales deal with major Saudi Arabia-based retailer Jarir Bookstore. The deal includes both official sales inside of the Jarir retail stores as well as technical support for the products. Previously, Jarir had to use third-party means to secure its supply of Apple products, but now with Apple officially providing product supply, costs will go down for both the Bookstore and its customers, creating an overall improved experience for those looking to purchase Apple gadgets in Saudi Arabia....

Apple’s Magic Keyboard with trackpad for iPad may be the first of the company’s iPad keyboards to persuade me to switch from Brydge. The company’s Smart Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio products didn’t impress me. The typing feel wasn’t good, they didn’t balance well on my lap and overall had the feel of something cheap and plasticky. That’s the reason I’ve so far stuck with Brydge keyboards. The Florida teenager who took control of well-known Twitter accounts last year has agreed to plead guilty in exchange for a three-year prison sentence, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The 18-year-old hacked accounts including Apple’s, Bill Gates’, and Joe Biden’s. The hacker invaded several Twitter accounts with the same message last year: Paperwork filed Monday in Hillsborough circuit court indicates that Graham Ivan Clark has agreed to serve three years in prison, followed by three years probation....
